These are giant puffball mushrooms. They grow in our woods from late summer to early fall. A single puffball can produce nine trillion spores! My granddaughter was thrilled with her find.
When I was around six I found a beautifully embroidered child's pillowcase with wonderful flowers and bees and a butterfly in the most beautiful colors. Right in the middle of all of this was the name JANE. I loved it! I asked my Mother where it came from and she said she embroidered it when she was pregnant with me. And, that she and my Father were going to name me Jane. But changed their minds. Too bad. I loved it. So, I started signing my name with a flourish . . . . J a n e
